- The facility must be a DHA licensed health facility, must hold medical liability insurance, and must obtain an internationally recognised telehealth accreditation within 24 months.
- Narcotic, controlled and semi-controlled medication may not be prescribed through telehealth. This is a core exclusion, not a case by case judgement.
- Nurses and allied health professionals may take part under the direction and clinical supervision of the treating physician.
- Remote patient monitoring requires an assessment before enrolment, in person at the facility or by teleconsultation.
The commercial consequence is direct. A remote-only psychiatric service can run assessment, psychotherapy, review and non-controlled prescribing. Anything that needs a controlled medicine has to bring the patient into a licensed facility.
